Tacocopter Wants To Use Unmanned Drones To Deliver Tacos To You Via Smartphone

Posted on 28/03/2012 | in Uncategorized | by

Possibly the coolest idea for tapping into the potential of smartphones and tablets I’ve seen to date.

It looks like the next big step in food service is having your edibles delivered by extremely bizarre, yet convenient methods. The latest is the aptly named “Tacocopter”, which will allow customers to order tacos using their smartphone and GPS location information. The details are transmitted to an unmanned drone helicopter which is loaded with your order and sent off to find you.

There’s not a lot that can be said to add to the awesomest concept in home delivery since Pizza Hut was integrated into Everquest. If Tacocopter ever manages to get around the CASA regulations on unmanned aerial vehicles, I look forwards to ordering dinner via my new iPad (3) or HTC One X :)

This sadly yet obviously isn’t anything other than a viral social marketing stunt. Even so, the best ideas are often born from harebrained schemes so I’m not giving up on my tablet-ordered pizza just yet.

    What…I…what…

    Oh, social marketing. Dammit.

I was really excited and fearful for a moment there. I nearly wet myself in two different ways at once.

Likewise Roger. Tacocopter itself is real and what the organisation is trying to do is almost real. They are seeking approval in the US for low-level unmanned aerial flights in urban areas. The taco delivery angle was, as stated, a delivery method for advertising their presence. Presumably more humanitarian functions would be the first to get approval with our late night cravings satisfied further down the track. In the meantime one can dream, of course :)
