Finnish mobile maker Nokia has confirmed that it will hold a joint media event with Microsoft on September 05, 2012 at New York.
The announcement has further bolstered speculations that Nokia will be unveiling the first Windows Phone 8 device at the event. The event is being scheduled ahead of Apple’s expected mid- September iPhone 5 release.
According to Reuters, Nokia did not reveal any detail with regards to the agenda of the media event. However, CEO Stephen Elop reiterated that a new WP8 phone will be unveiled very soon. Nokia’s latest release is being closely monitored by analysts and enthusiasts alike as it strives to gain ground against a tough global smartphone competition.
Elop reposed confidence in Nokia’s decision to actively pursue Microsoft’s Windows Phone as operating system of choice for its smartphones instead of Symbian or any other platform:
I don’t think about rewinding the clock and thinking about competing elsewhere.
He added:
In today’s war … (between) Android, Apple and Windows, we are very clear, we are fighting that with the Windows phone.
