At WWDC 2012 the anticipated iOS 6 was revealed and Apple said that the new platform will include 200 new features!  So what are its highlights?

Siri – Siri will see reap most of the updates with it now being available on the iPad.  Sports lovers will love its ability to ask sports scores.  Movie goers will love the ability to ask Siri what movies are playing and ask for its ratings.  Siri will also have the ability to launch applications, with a much anticipated use for in-car use where manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW have partnered with the company.

Maps – Users will no longer have Google Maps as default map solution as Apple will be bringing their own 3D maps with audible turn-by-turn navigation.  Maps will re-route users if there is heavy traffic ad will have Yelp support for 100 million business listings.

Facebook – Rumors were confirmed and iOS will receive Facebook integration.  Users will be able to share gallery photos right to Facebook and events will appear in the calendar.

Phone – We must not forget that the iPhone is, in fact, a phone, so this will also be receiving some updates.  They’ve added a “Do Not Disturb” feature that allows users to mute calls to all callers excepted ones you’ve designated.  Users will also be able to reply will messages to missed calls or set a reminder to call them back.

FaceTime – users will be able to use FaceTime on a wireless cellular network and not just be limited to WiFi.

Apple did note that the iOS6 update would not be available for the first generation iPad.

What do you think about the updates?  Is there anything Apple didn’t include in iOS 6 that you think should have been included?

So basically getting into line with Android…

    iOS, now with more Android.

I’m just waiting for Apple to try and patent one of these ‘new’ features and then turn around and sue Google/Samsung/HTC for using them…

Wow. I bought a phone 2 years ago that does all of this. It cost me $500 NZ… Has apple given up?

I don’t really see the appeal of Siri or S Voice, unless you’re blind, who the hell talks to their phone?

To invest heavily in such a big gimmick is silly, but that’s just my opinion.

It seems like they’ve been refining, more than innovating.

Nonetheless, it’s almost certain that the next iPhone will set record sales. The general populace just eat Apple stuff up.

Umm I’m in no way an Apple fan but how is this catching up to android?? Getting rid of google maps isn’t catching up. Android doesn’t have Siri or Facetime (even if android has equivalents iOS does too e.g. Skype). And Android doesn’t have Facebook integration. Windows Phone has Facebook integration so iOS is catching up to WP.

Sorry “drg”. Android has had Facebook integration since Eclair.

I have had apple since the iphone 3G (had android Eclair before that). I recently just sold my 4S and purchased a nexus running ICS. All of this stuff apple is calling “new” is stuff android has had for ages. Hats off to Apple for there marketing. Can’t knock em for that i guess. These additions are definitely new, new to apple, not smartphones :) As for SIRI, SIRI is kinda cool, but there are so many options on android that can do the same thing, sometimes better and I am sure it won’t be long before google integrate something similar natively into android.

All in all, from a previous apple lover who knew no better, they are great additions. As a new ICS user, these additions are old news :) Still kinda miss my iphone sometimes though….

What ios6 should incluede, the next generation software, not software that android released at the start of the year. They should have put most of these things in ios5 and then put new features in ios6 that android didn’t have.
