One of the biggest features on the iPhone 4S is Siri and Google is now looking to update their Android Voice commands to compete. Google has codenamed their Voice project “Majel” which it stems from Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, whose wife’s name is Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and who was the voice of the computer in Star Trek.
The key to the voice command system is perfecting the “natural language” that users ask questions. Google has been collecting samples from users with their Voice Search app, which is assisting in the process. The Google X team is rumoured to be working on Majel and that a natural language update could come by the end of the year. A full release of Majel probably wouldn’t come until late next year.
