Google to release Majel, competitor to Siri by end of year?

Posted on 14/12/2011 | in Android | by

One of the biggest features on the iPhone 4S is Siri and Google is now looking to update their Android Voice commands to compete. Google has codenamed their Voice project “Majel” which it stems from Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, whose wife’s name is Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and who was the voice of the computer in Star Trek.

The key to the voice command system is perfecting the “natural language” that users ask questions. Google has been collecting samples from users with their Voice Search app, which is assisting in the process. The Google X team is rumoured to be working on Majel and that a natural language update could come by the end of the year. A full release of Majel probably wouldn’t come until late next year.

Really siri is a very nice and useful app and there is not a competitor of it.

You are right there is not a competitor for siri at this time. But I can assure you that when google launches majel it will be far superior especially since they have been a long ahead of apple in the voice command department.

This new software must be good but it will be not good as siri is.

How do you assume it will not be as good? Google has always had the upper hand in the voice command department. Now they will perfect it.

You have to be kidding. First of, SIRI was developed in 15 minutes by Apple. Google has been working on this for YEARS! Google did Goog411 for years, did voice search, did Google Voice, did a TON of stuff to collect the largest voice database in the world. Now, Google is using that data to develop a system where voice is understood naturally. Google could have released something the day after SIRI did if they wanted, and it probably would have been better than SIRI because of the massive data about voice systems stored in the Google database, but we are almost a year from that point and they still have not. That can only mean they are waiting until it becomes SO amazing, hat it will change the way we do everything.

This is probably a really old post but Siri wasn’t created in 15 minutes. Siri, Inc. was company founded in 2007 that was developing the software for smartphone platforms including Blackberry and Android. Apple purchased them in 2010 and killed development for the other platforms.

With that being said, I still think Google will come out on top because there development team are a great cornucopia of progressive thinkers. Apple’s true genius has passed away and unfortunately he took a lot of his unique creativity with him.

Google are leaving this too long.. they will end up being behind at this rate. i bet as soon as majel is out siri will receive a big update. remember siri is still in beta

BETA means nothing. Remember Gmail in beta for like 5 years? I heard rumors that Google’s version is passing the Turing tests like 92% of the time. If it can bump that up just a bit, we are talking about world changing.
