Google launched Google Listen in August 2009 so people could listen to podcasts.  The company has now announced that they would be discontinuing the service because Google Play has a wide variety of applications for users to download to listen to podcasts.  Currently, users can still use the application, but it will completely lose functionality after November 1st.  Users can save their podcast subscriptions because it uses Google Reader.
