According to a report from the World Bank, 75% of the world now owns a cell phone. This is a mix of both prepaid and postpaid, which has grown to over 6 billion, up from 1 billion in the year 2000. Of the 6 billion mobile accounts, around 5 billion are in developing countries where users are using mobile devices to enhance their lifestyle.
The report also stated that over 30 billion mobile applications were downloaded last year.
The report was titled “Information and Communications for Development 2012: Maximizing Mobile.”
