Toshiba has announced the release of the Excite X10, which will be the worlds thinnest tablet, taking the title away from the ASUS Transformer Prime. The Toshiba Excite X10 is 0.6mm thinner than the Transformer Prime, measuring just 7.7mm. The Excite X10 is also the lightest tablet to date, weighing 1.2 pounds, which is 0.4 pounds lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet sports a 10.1 inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, which is covered in gorilla glass. The device will have a dual core 1.2GHZ CPU, a 2MP front facing camera and a 5MP rear camera. The device will also have a micro HDMI out port and a micro SD card slot. The Toshiba Excite X10 will be available “mid 1st quarter”, in a 16GB and 32GB model.

Do you think that the Toshiba Excite X10 has what it takes to compete with other popular Android devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? Should Toshiba have put more thought into the name of the tablet?
