| Telstra today released Australia's first 4G mobile, the HTC Velocity 4G. The device will be able to access Telstra's 4G network within 5KM of all major cities and major regional centres. Voice will continue to be transmitted over Telstra's Next G Network, whilst data goes over the 4G network. When you leave a 4G network area, data will then be transmitted over the Next G network. Telstra are advertising download speeds between 2Mbps and 40Mbps, and upload speeds between 1Mbps and 10Mbps on the 4G network. | BlackBerry users on the Telstra network can have their App World purchases added to their Telstra bill from today, rather than having to pay for the apps separately. This means that people will only have to submit their payment details to Telstra, rather than to both Telstra and RIM. The carrier billing model for app purchases has hit Australia, a year after it launched in North America. Telstra will be the first Australian carrier to offer the system. | Telstra switched on it's 4G network this morning, along with the release of their first 4G capable wireless broadband dongle. The new 4G network is only currently available in the centre of capital cities, airports and select regional centres. Telstra is Australia's first mobile carrier to launch commercial 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution), Optus and Vodafone Hutchinson Australia are expected to switch on their 4G LTE networks next year.
