Today I've opted for a departure from the usual subject of MobilePhoneBlog posts. For much of the preceding hour or so I've been watching the excellent documentary, Secrets of the Superbrands. This is a documentary which very effectively re-frames information that anyone who follows the tech market will already mostly know in a very different context. Sony has started a program that will allow Android developers to test their apps on several of their Xperia line smartphones. It will be part of Sony's Device Loaner Program where they can borrow the Xperia phone from the company at no charge. Developers have 9 devices to choose from and can keep the device for 30 days. Sony has announced that their Xperia smartphone line would be getting the Android 4.0 upgrade. The update for the Xperia ray, Xperia neon, and Xperia arc S will be initially offered to those in European countries, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. It will expand to additional global markets over the course of the next 6 weeks. | Pictures of Sony's long rumoured Windows Phone 7 device have been leaked online, showing off the devices landscape QWERTY sliding keyboard. Although the prototype has Sony Ericsson branding on it, the device is likely to be branded as a Sony device, if it is ever released. The prototype device has a white and black colour combination, along with a camera and flash on the back of the device. There is not much more information that can be inferred from the pictures. | It was announced in October that that Sony would be buying out Ericsson's share to end their partnership. A Sony executive was speaking to an Indian newspaper and it looks as though Sony Ericsson will become Sony by mid-year 2012. | Sony Ericsson confirmed on their blog that their Xperia device lineup will be receiving the Android update to 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Martina Johansson said: “We can today confirm that we plan to upgrade the entire 2011 Xperia™ portfolio* to the next version of Android known as Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. We are working on merging our current Xperia™ experience with the new features in Android 4.0. | Pictures of Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc HD (also known as the Nozomi LT26i) have been leaked online. The pictures show a blue LED strip that runs around the device, which will likely be used to alert of incoming notifications, and to help illuminate the front hardware buttons. The Xperia Arc HD will feature a 4.3", 720 x 1280 display with a 341ppi pixel density. It will have a dual-core ARMv7 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.
