Shareholder bring lawsuit against Nokia over failed turn around; claims fraud

Nokia shareholder, Robert Chmielinski has filed a class action lawsuit against company CEO Stephen Elop and CFO Timo Ihamuotila claiming that they misled and defrauded its shareholders by making false statements regarding the company turnaround due to strong Lumia sales between October 2011 and April 2012.  Chmielinski said that the partnership with Windows Phone did not improve Nokia's smartphone market and led to significant loss to its shareholders.  He also said that Elop, Ihamuotila, and Nokia "engaged in a scheme to deceive the market" and he used press... Nokia: Windows Phone sales hurting because of Skype

It seems to be an uphill battle for the Nokia and Windows Phone partnership.  During a shareholder's  meeting, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop addressed the crowd about issues with carriers and the use of Skype.  Elop said: "Nokia seems to be having a problem with the distribution channel due to Skype…If the operator doesn't want us, it doesn't want us. Nokia Lumia 900 to launch globally

At MWC, Nokia announced they would release the Lumia 900 outside of the US, expected to ship in Q2 2012.  The device will have a 4.3-inch WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, 8MP camera with LED flash, Snapdragon 1.4GHz processor, and 1800 mAh battery.  The Lumia 900 is also built using a polycarbonate unibody construction. Nokia cuts 4,000 jobs

Nokia has announced that they will be cutting 4,000 jobs in Hungary, Finland, and Mexico in preparation to move closer to Asian suppliers. The company is shifting to Asian manufacturing since it is closer to component suppliers. Nokia shipped 1 million Lumia handsets in Q4 2011?

According to Morgan Stanley, Nokia may have beaten analysts' expectations in Q4 2011. The Finnish company sold 1 million Windows Phone devices in the last quarter. The Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 have only been available in limited markets. In some markets, Nokia handsets were bundled with a free Xbox 360, which likely boosted sales. Nokia buys a new mobile operating system

Nokia has bought a small Norwegian company called Smarterphone, that has an operating system designed for feature phones. Nokia has confirmed the acquisition, though declined to comment any further, on its plans for the mobile OS. The operating system would sit aside Windows Phone 7, which is currently being used on Nokia's high end devices, and Symbian, which is currently used on the devices with lower specs, that are being released in emerging markets.
