Nokia shareholder, Robert Chmielinski has filed a class action lawsuit against company CEO Stephen Elop and CFO Timo Ihamuotila claiming that they misled and defrauded its shareholders by making false statements regarding the company turnaround due to strong Lumia sales between October 2011 and April 2012. Chmielinski said that the partnership with Windows Phone did not improve Nokia's smartphone market and led to significant loss to its shareholders. It seems to be an uphill battle for the Nokia and Windows Phone partnership. During a shareholder's meeting, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop addressed the crowd about issues with carriers and the use of Skype. Elop said: "Nokia seems to be having a problem with the distribution channel due to Skype…If the operator doesn't want us, it doesn't want us. We will appeal to them with other arguments. It's been revealed that amidst Nokia's attempt to get back on top by investing in the Windows Phone 7 platform its revenue stream counts Apple as a major contributor. As with Microsoft and Google, to whom Apple also pays significant amounts of money to license the ideas that run the iPhone, payments made by Apple for licensing deals and settlements for claims of patent infringement have added more income to Nokia's bottom line than sales of the Lumia series... Nokia has finally made available its new Browser 2.0 update for Nokia Series 40 devices, including the popular Asha phones. The new update is poised to deliver an easier, but better browsing experience for the users. Colin Giles, Nokia's executive Vice President of sales has resigned after 20 years of service with the company. He cited that he was leaving to spend more time with his family. Giles spent some of his time at Nokia widening their presence in Asian markets. At MWC, Nokia announced they would release the Lumia 900 outside of the US, expected to ship in Q2 2012. The device will have a 4.3-inch WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, 8MP camera with LED flash, Snapdragon 1.4GHz processor, and 1800 mAh battery. The Nokia Lumia 610 was announced and when it's released it's expected to be the cheapest Windows Phone available. Why's that? Well, it will come with 256MB of RAM, 800MHz processor, and a 5MP camera. It's also expected to run Windows Phone Tango. | Nokia has announced that they will be cutting 4,000 jobs in Hungary, Finland, and Mexico in preparation to move closer to Asian suppliers. The company is shifting to Asian manufacturing since it is closer to component suppliers. Nokia didn't state finances as one of the reasons they were cutting positions, but that it will allow the company to focus on the time it takes the device to reach its market. | According to Morgan Stanley, Nokia may have beaten analysts' expectations in Q4 2011. The Finnish company sold 1 million Windows Phone devices in the last quarter. The Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 have only been available in limited markets. In some markets, Nokia handsets were bundled with a free Xbox 360, which likely boosted sales. | Nokia has bought a small Norwegian company called Smarterphone, that has an operating system designed for feature phones. Nokia has confirmed the acquisition, though declined to comment any further, on its plans for the mobile OS. The operating system would sit aside Windows Phone 7, which is currently being used on Nokia's high end devices, and Symbian, which is currently used on the devices with lower specs, that are being released in emerging markets.
