Twitter updates mobile site for basic phones

For those who haven't yet upgraded to a smartphone and are using a basic phone can now find an updated website for Twitter at mobile.twitter.com.  The updated mobile version is designed to use 1/3 lower bandwidth and will include Tweets in the Home Tab and users will be able to check their @mentions in the Connect Tab, along with their Direct messages.   Source:  Twitter... Some time back, the internet blogosphere went wild raving about the possibility of an exclusive smartphone being developed secretly by Facebook. The speculations were put to rest by none other than Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself. Later, HTC unveiled Android-based HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa. Both phones featured dedicated Facebook buttons that allowed instant access to the popular social networking website, with Salsa being a regular touchscreen phone while ChaCha included a QWERTY keyboard as well in addition to a touchscreen. The conference presented some pretty interesting facts about smartphones, and was an eye-opener for anyone who follows changing technological trends. Google & Asus are rumoured to have partnered up to release the first Google Play tablet into the marketplace. HTC and Samsung have both had bites of the Google cherry with their Nexus devices and it looks like Google wants to share the love. Mobile OS platforms approaching one million apps

According to Mobilewalla, mobile apps are about to reach a big milestone. There are about to be one million applications available across the four major platforms, which include iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Phone. There are currently 987,863 apps available across all of these platforms. If the company included Symbian's Nokia Ovi Store, the apps availability would be over one million. Apple's iOS has the majority of the apps available, which is approximately 59% of the apps. Android holds the next largest with 32%. Adobe to end Flash for mobile; to focus on HTML5

Adobe officially announced that they will no longer be developing new mobile versions of their Flash player. They said they would only be offering bug fixes for current versions, but would still offer support. The company will be focusing their efforts towards HTML5 as their new standard. Currently, Adobe Flash Player 11 is available for download in the Android Market. Adobe stated in their press release that it will receive an update to 11.1, but it would be the final update. Facebook finally launches iPad App

After weeks of anticipation and leaks, Facebook has finally released an iPad app, along with its own mobile app platform. iPad users will no longer have to navigate Facebook via the website with Safari, or use unofficial Facebook apps on the iPad. When you view game requests using Facebook on the iPad, and choose to accept an invite, you will be redirected to the App Store page, or the app on your iPad, if you already have it installed. Swype purchased by Nuance for $100M

Keyboard designer Swype has been acquired by Nuance, a voice recognition system company, for $100 million. Swype launched their keyboard in 2008 and it is on almost 100 million devices.  Nuance did some work on Apple's Siri Assistant app that will be on the iPhone 4S.  They also own the right to T9 predictive text.
