It has been tough going for Canadian mobile phone manufacturer Research in Motion for the last few years. Facing extreme competition from other smartphone manufacturers, their once-loved BlackBerry phones have been mocked as unpopular and lacking in innovation. Although RIM has been in a downward spiral for a while now, those who are loyal with Blackberry swear by Blackberry Messenger. A new rumor has surfaced that Microsoft is looking to invest in the dwindling Canadian company RIM. Bezinga, a finance site stated: Hearing Renewed Chatter of Microsoft Interest in Research in Motion Acquisition: Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)is prepared to make a $3.5 billion investment in Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM), according to sources. The two companies have been frequently mentioned in potential deals over the past few months. RIM has approximately $6.85 billion market, so $3.5 billion would around 50% off the company. | Since RIM announced their $125 million loss in Q4 2011, there have been several members of their leadership who have resigned from the Canadian company. Now, a spokesperson for the company has said that Alistair Mitchell, VP of BBM service, and Alan Brenner, Senior VP of the platform will also be resigning. The first to resign were CTO of software, COO Jim Rowan, David Yach, and Co-CEO Jim Balsillie. | RIM has been promising Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook since before it was released, and a year later, it looks like they are finally coming. RIM has created a microsite for developers, explaining how to repackage Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook. You won't be able to install all of the apps currently available on the Android Market, you will only be able to install Android apps, if the developer has repackaged the app for the BlackBerry App World. | CrackBerry has leaked a render of BlackBerry's upcoming 'London' device, which will either make or break the company when it is released later this year. | RIM kicked off the new year in New York City by encouraging everyone to 'Be Bold' and take charge in 2012. Following the new years pitch, an infographic featuring 'The Bold Team' was created, which has been marketed on Twitter using the #BeBold hashtag. The infographic features four cartoon characters, similar to those that you would see on Disney Junior. Whilst the cartoon characters may appeal to preschoolers, the marketing campaign isn't going to help RIM sell any devices. | Samsung Electronics Co have come out and said that they are not interested in purchasing Research In Motion Ltd, denying the report that saw RIM's shares go up in price by 8%. James Chung, a Seoul-based spokesman for Samsung, said that there had been no contact between the two companies. He also said that Samsung wasn't interested in using RIM's software through a licensing deal, more or less ruling out the prospect of any relationship between Samsung and the Canadian mobile phone maker. | There are reports saying that RIM has hired the investment firm Goldman Sachs to explore possible sale potentials. An anonymous trader told Fox Business that "It's up on Goldman" but, "I wouldn't put too much on that." The only companies that showed some interest were Nokia and Microsoft, but rumors state they may not go through with it. Although they may be seeking sale prospects, reports show that RIM will still hold off on any sales until they see how Blackberry 10 performs on the market.
