According to DigiTimes Research, Apple will be the largest smartphone shipment vendor in 2011. The Cupertino-based company is projected to ship 86.4 million iPhones, up 81.9% compared to last year’s 47.5 million. Apple started off the year right by overtaking Nokia smartphone shipments in Q2 with 20.3 million.
DigiTimes analyst Luke Zin’s research shows that Huawei and ZTE’s marketshare will grow in 2011. Huawei will see a 400% increase in shipments. Samsung Electronics shipments will have the highest shipment growth with an increase of 191.3% to 67 million devices.
In total, the top five smartphone companies will exceed 333 million units, which is 72% of all devices shipped.
